The first group of residential buildings on No.2 Island of Ocean Flower Island achieved the Two-star Certificate of Green Building Design Label on 29 November 2016. With a total built-up area of 709,600 square meters, the first group 186 buildings is an ultra-large high-star rating green construction project in China now.

The energy-saving rate of the Ocean Flower Island’s residential buildings have reached 50 percent, adopted recyclable construction materials, most of them are equipped with solar energy water heating systems, and are able to use the collected rainwater to irrigate outdoor plants and wash roads. These measures not only make residents feel more comfortable and have more opportunities to get in touch with nature, but also reduce the noise and other negative effects, make energy-efficient, cost-effective eco-houses a reality.

The planning and design of Ocean Flower Island adhered to the principle of ecological, environmentally friendly and going green, all buildings adopt eco-friendly systems such as solar power, tidal energy, rainwater recycling, green transportation. Ocean Flower Island provides a guideline for similar projects, and it’s also a fine model of ecological building.

According to “Opinions by Central Committee of CCP & State Council on Strengthening City Planning and Construction” and “Opinions by State Council on Promote New-type Urbanization” and other significant strategic policies, new requirements in regard to the development of green buildings have been put forward. Developing eco-buildings is a requisite way to facilitate the transformation and upgrade of urban and rural development, and is also an important livelihood project of improving people’s life quality. By achieving a high-star green building certificate, residential project of Ocean Flower Island played an important role in promoting green building development in Hainan Province.
